Regulatory Body for Railway Transport and for Brussels Airport Operations

About the Service

The Regulatory Body for Railway Transport and for Brussels Airport Operations has been created as regulator for the Belgian railway by the Royal Decree of 25 October 2004. This Royal Decree has been amended by the royal decree of 1 February 2006 adding the competence concerning economic regulation of the airport.

By Royal Decree of 4 December 2012 the statute of the Regulatory Body has been amended. First, The Regulatory Body is no longer organized within the Federal Public Service for Mobility and Transport, and second, the Minister of Transport is only competent with respect to disciplinary matters for the executive members of the Regulatory Body.

A further statutory evolution of the Regulatory Body will be realized in the near future as a consequence of the recast of the first European Railway Package.

The Regulatory Service is to have a staff of 12 members. 10 have taken up office for now.
